Biography

Sir Nicholas Winton was the "British Schindler" who organised the rescue of 669 children, mostly Jewish, from Nazi-occupied Czechoslovakia in the months before the outbreak of war. Working from his home and office, he arranged trains, foster families, and transit visas in a remarkable operation that saved hundreds of lives.Winton kept his actions secret for nearly fifty years until his wife found a scrapbook in their attic in 1988. His Manchester connections come through the refugee community that settled in the northwest of England.
