What is My Regiment UK?
My Regiment UK is a coalition of public initiatives, organisations, researchers, volunteers and families preserving the historical memory of WWII in the United Kingdom. The platform stewards four public-facing directions — «Immortal Regiment» (Victory March), flower-laying ceremonies at memorials, the Victory Day Auto-Rally, and the «Necropolis» research project on Soviet military burials in the UK — and is governed by a Council of three member organisations.
What is the «Immortal Regiment» direction?
The «Immortal Regiment» (Бессмертный полк) is direction 1 of My Regiment UK — the Victory March and commemorative processions, in which people honour their relatives who served in WWII by carrying their portraits. The movement began in Tomsk, Russia, in 2012 and has since spread worldwide. Since 2026 the UK format is a virtual march paired with a flower-laying ceremony at 10:00 AM at the Soviet World War II Memorial in London (Lambeth Road SE1 6HZ) on 9 May. See the dedicated direction page for the full Charter and history.
How do I add a veteran to the platform?
First, create an account or sign in. Then click "Add Veteran" in the top navigation bar. You will need to provide the veteran's name (in English and optionally in Russian), dates of birth and death if known, a photograph, their rank and military unit, and a short biography. After submission, your profile will be reviewed and published.
What information do I need to add a veteran?
At minimum you need the veteran's full name and a photograph. Ideally, you should also provide their date and place of birth, date of death, military rank, unit, awards, burial location, and a biography describing their service. The more detail you add, the richer their memorial page will be.
Can I add a veteran who was not from the Soviet Union?
The «Immortal Regiment» direction originally focuses on those who served in the Red Army or supported the Soviet war effort. However, My Regiment UK welcomes profiles of all WWII veterans connected to the Russian-speaking community in Britain, including those from allied nations or those with mixed heritage.
How long does it take for a veteran profile to be published?
Submissions are reviewed by our moderation team. Typically, a profile is published within 1–3 days. If there are issues with the submission (missing photo, incomplete information), we will contact you via email.
Can I edit a veteran profile after it has been published?
Yes. Go to your Dashboard, find the veteran under "My Veterans", and click "Edit". Changes will be reviewed before being applied. You can add more photos, update the biography, or correct details at any time.
What is the Unknown Soldiers section?
The Unknown Soldiers section is dedicated to identifying unrecognised WWII soldiers. If you have a photograph of a soldier whose identity is not confirmed, you can submit it. The community can then contribute information to help match names to faces.
How do I find events near me?
Visit the Events page and use the region filter to find commemorations in your area. Events are listed by date with details about the location and programme. The main annual commemoration is on 9 May: a virtual march UK-wide and a flower-laying ceremony at 10:00 AM at the Soviet World War II Memorial, Lambeth Road SE1 6HZ, London. Physical street marches are not held in 2027.
Is the platform available in Russian?
Yes. The entire platform is bilingual — English and Russian. You can switch languages using the EN/РУ toggle in the top navigation bar. All veteran profiles, events, and news are presented in both languages when translations are available.
How can I volunteer or contribute to the movement?
There are many ways to get involved: add your family's veteran to the registry, attend the flower-laying ceremony in London, help with translation, contribute to historical research, or support virtual remembrance and online community work. Contact us at info@moypolk.uk for more information.
What is the Historical Archive?
The Historical Archive section contains research articles, archival materials, and documented records about Soviet military burials in the United Kingdom. It includes data from CWGC records, Russian military archives (ЦАМО, ГАРФ), and on-site cemetery documentation.
Can I light a virtual candle for a veteran?
Yes. On any veteran's profile page you will find a "Light a Candle" button. This is a way to pay your respects. The number of candles lit is displayed on the veteran's page.
