Just before the war, he received a mission to Norilsk. Upon arrival, he was given comfortable accommodations in a two-story wooden house at 14 Oktyabrskaya Street. During the war, he had a reservation, but from the very beginning, he wrote requests to be sent to the front. But they didn't send him. He was an excellent agitator and had excellent communication skills. During these difficult times for the people and the country, he was constantly with them. Almost all the men were called up to the front, and in the fishing cooperatives, wives, teenage boys, and even elderly men took the place of men. Andrei Gavrilovich turned to them. Andrei tried many times to submit an application and volunteer for the front. But his friends tried to persuade him, urging him to help the front. They insisted that not everyone could handle it in his place. He made a personal request to his friend, a very influential figure in the Norilsk administration, sharing the true state of his family's affairs, and his friend helped him. Almost all of his brothers and nephews were called up for military service. Andrei Gavrilovich was voluntarily drafted into the army in 1942 by the Taimyr Regional Military Commissariat. He was assigned to the 43rd Reserve Rifle Division as a machine gunner. The division was formed in Kansk. It was sent to Novgorod, where fierce and terrifying battles were taking place. According to military doctor Krechetov, during those terrible days of the war, they couldn't tell when it was day and when it was night. Explosions made it constantly dark. Andrei Gavrilovich was wounded in the head on January 4, 1943. He wasn't admitted to the hospital until January 22; his wound was severe. It was a penetrating shrapnel wound to the right frontal region. Doctors fought for his life, but he arrived at the hospital too late. Andrei Gavrilovich died in the hospital on February 4, 1943, at 1:00 PM. He is buried in cemetery No. 2, Kresttsy village, grave No. 71, Novgorod region.
