Biography
Corporal Thomas Walsh served with No. 4 Commando, one of the elite units that spearheaded the D-Day landings. His section landed on Sword Beach in the first wave, tasked with silencing a German battery position. Thomas fought through the initial defences and helped secure the beachhead. He was killed in action during the fighting at the Orne bridgehead two weeks later, aged 25. His name is inscribed on the Bayeux Memorial. His family in Manchester hold an annual remembrance for him each June.
