Biography
Warrant Officer Stefan Novak was a Polish airman who escaped occupied Poland in 1939, reaching Britain via Hungary and France. He flew as a wireless operator/air gunner with No. 300 (Masovian) Polish Bomber Squadron, completing thirty-eight operations over Germany in Wellington and Lancaster bombers. He was awarded the Polish Virtuti Militari and the British Distinguished Flying Medal. After the war, unable to return to Communist Poland, he settled in Manchester's Cheetham Hill area, joining a large Polish community. He worked as an electrician and was a pillar of the Polish Catholic church on Chorlton Road until his death.

Уоррант-офицер Стефан Новак — польский лётчик, бежавший из оккупированной Польши в 1939 году. Летал радистом/воздушным стрелком в 300-й Польской бомбардировочной эскадрилье, выполнив тридцать восемь операций. Награждён польским орденом Virtuti Militari и британской Медалью за лётные заслуги. После войны обосновался в Манчестере, не имея возможности вернуться в коммунистическую Польшу.
