Biography

Sergeant Maria Fedorova served as a pilot with the 46th Guards Night Bomber Regiment, another of the legendary all-female aviation units. She flew over 800 combat sorties in her Po-2 biplane, often making multiple missions per night. After the war she worked as a test pilot at a Soviet aviation factory, then emigrated to Manchester in the 1990s with her daughter.
