Biography

Leading Wren Margaret Ellen Shaw served in the Women's Royal Naval Service at HMS Mercury, the naval signals school in Hampshire. She worked as a wireless telegraphy operator intercepting enemy naval signals from 1942 to 1945. After the war she returned to Manchester where she worked as a telephone exchange supervisor. She never spoke publicly about her wartime intelligence work until the 1990s.
