Biography

Sergeant James Patrick Murphy served with the 2nd Battalion Lancashire Fusiliers in the North African campaign. He distinguished himself during the Battle of Mareth Line in Tunisia in March 1943, earning the Military Medal for leading his section through heavy enemy fire to capture a key position. He was killed during the initial landings in Sicily in July 1943.
