Biography

My great-grandfather moved to Moscow in 1935 from Ukraine with his two younger brothers. He married and raised three children with his wife. When the war began, my great-grandfather's brothers were drafted to the front, but he was spared due to his serious health condition – tuberculosis. Instead, he went to work at Shoe Factory No. 3 of the Mosgorkozhobuvprom Trust in the Frunzensky District of Moscow. He worked in a shoe factory from November 15, 1941, to September 9, 1945. He was a Stakhanovite at the factory, making heels for army boots. During his three years at the factory, he met production quotas by 150-180% and also trained four workers.
