Biography
Elsie Platt worked at the Metropolitan-Vickers factory in Trafford Park, Manchester, assembling Lancaster bomber components and radar equipment. As a charge hand, she supervised a team of 50 women on the night shift. The factory was a prime target and was bombed during the Manchester Blitz of December 1940, but production continued. Elsie later recalled the camaraderie of the women workers as the defining experience of her life.
