Biography

Elena Sergeevna Fedorova was a military surgeon who served at the Battle of Stalingrad. She operated on wounded soldiers in cellars and ruined buildings while the battle raged above. In the six months of the battle, she treated over 2,000 wounded soldiers. After Stalingrad, she continued to serve with frontline field hospitals through the advance to Berlin. After the war she became a professor of surgery in Leningrad, and in the 1990s emigrated to Manchester to be near her daughter. She was a respected member of the local Russian community and shared her experiences at schools and universities.

Елена Сергеевна Фёдорова была военным хирургом, служившим в Сталинградской битве. Она оперировала раненых в подвалах и разрушенных зданиях. За шесть месяцев битвы она оказала помощь более 2000 раненым. После войны она стала профессором хирургии в Ленинграде, а в 1990-х эмигрировала в Манчестер.
