Biography

Corporal Dorothy Whittaker served at Bletchley Park in Hut 6, working on breaking German Army and Air Force Enigma ciphers. Like all Bletchley veterans, she kept her wartime work secret for decades, not even telling her husband until the official declassification in the 1970s. Born in Stockport, she lived in Manchester her entire postwar life and was recognised with an MBE in 2009 for her wartime service.

Капрал Дороти Уиттакер служила в Блетчли-парке в бараке № 6, работая над расшифровкой немецких шифров «Энигма» армии и ВВС. Как и все ветераны Блетчли, она десятилетиями хранила тайну своей военной работы, не рассказывая даже мужу до официального рассекречивания в 1970-х годах.
