Harrogate (Stonefall) Cemetery in North Yorkshire — predominantly a RAF aircrew burial site — holds three Soviet soldiers buried in 1945: Kapalil, Ustinov, and Kolishev.
Harrogate (Stonefall) Cemetery (Wetherby Rd, Harrogate HG3 1DE) contains 988 WWII burials — nearly all aircrew, three-quarters of them Canadian, who died at the Harrogate military hospital or at one of the approximately ten RAF airfields in Yorkshire.
After the Second Front opened in June 1944, large numbers of liberated POWs were transferred to the Yorkshire rehabilitation zone. Many needed urgent medical care and unfortunately could not be saved.
