Biography
Dame Vera Lynn, the "Forces' Sweetheart," was Britain's most beloved wartime entertainer. Her songs "We'll Meet Again" and "The White Cliffs of Dover" became anthems of hope for millions during the darkest days of the war. She performed for troops in Egypt, India, and Burma, often in dangerous conditions close to the front lines.Her Bristol connections through wartime performances and her tireless dedication to veterans continued throughout her life. She remained a symbol of British resilience and spirit, celebrated on the 75th anniversary of VE Day in 2020, shortly before her death at age 103.
