Biography
Flight Sergeant Stanley Pritchard was a rear gunner from Bedminster who flew with No. 10 Squadron from RAF Melbourne in Yorkshire. Known as the most dangerous position in a bomber crew — the "tail-end Charlie" — he completed a full tour of thirty operations over Germany. During a raid on Hamburg in July 1943, his quick reactions in directing evasive action saved his Halifax from a night fighter attack. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Medal and later became an aircraft inspector at the Bristol Aeroplane Company at Filton.
