Maria Ivanovna Savchenko joined a partisan brigade at the age of 16 in occupied Belarus. She served as a courier and intelligence gatherer, making dangerous trips through German-occupied territory to deliver messages between partisan units. After liberation, she returned to school and eventually became a journalist. She emigrated to Southampton in 2005.

Мария Ивановна Савченко вступила в партизанскую бригаду в 16 лет на оккупированной территории Беларуси. Служила связной и разведчицей, совершая опасные переходы через оккупированную территорию для передачи сообщений между отрядами. После освобождения вернулась в школу, затем стала журналисткой. Эмигрировала в Саутгемптон в 2005 году.
