Mamish Shahbaz oglu Abdullayev, 1923-1945, an Azerbaijani sergeant of the Red Army. The title of Hero of the Soviet Union was conferred on him posthumously on 24 March 1945 for his conduct in September 1944 in the capture of the bridgeheads on the Narew. The published account states a figure of more than 29 enemy soldiers killed, and reports it as claimed rather than established; it is carried here on the same terms. He was killed in action on 26 January 1945, four months after the action for which he was decorated and two months before the award.
