Biography

Petty Officer Kenneth Davies served aboard HMS Bulldog, a destroyer that played a key role in the Battle of the Atlantic. In May 1941, HMS Bulldog was part of the escort group that captured U-110 and recovered its Enigma machine and codebooks — an intelligence coup that significantly aided Bletchley Park's code-breaking efforts. Davies was among the boarding party that entered the sinking U-boat to retrieve the vital equipment. He continued serving on Atlantic convoy escorts until 1944, when he was transferred to training duties. Born in Bristol, he returned to the city after the war and worked at the Bristol docks.
