Kadi Abakarovich Abakarov, 1913-1948, an Avar squad commander who held the rank of Guards starshina. He was made a Hero of the Soviet Union on 15 May 1946, after the war had ended, for his conduct at the Seelow Heights - the battle fought on the approaches to Berlin in April 1945. He died in February 1948.
