Biography
Sapper Jack Leonard Bishop from Bristol served with the Royal Engineers, landing on Gold Beach on D-Day. His task was to clear beach obstacles and mines under fire to allow tanks and infantry to advance. He survived D-Day and served through the advance into Germany. He lived to 95 and was the last D-Day veteran in the Bristol area at the time of his death.
