Ivan Filippovich Abdulov, 1922-1943, born at Shumikha in the Kuznetsk uyezd, served as a sniper and was killed on 11 March 1943 near Lyubotin in the Kharkiv region. The title of Hero of the Soviet Union was conferred on him posthumously on 26 October 1943, seven months after his death. On the number of his kills the sources diverge and are left diverging here: his official award papers are reported to record at least 298, while wartime newspapers give higher figures. The lower, documented figure is the one that rests on a record.
