Biography

Uryy Vasil'evich was born in the town of Navoloki, Kineshma District, Ivanovo Oblast. He dreamed to become a sailor since he was a child. He was an excellent student at school. After finishing school he enrolled into River Navy College. Where he also was an excellent student. After graduating he recieved invitation to study at the Highest Military Naval Academy. He refused the invitation. Instead he and his classmates joined Soviet Armed Forces as volunrteers. He joined 123rd infantry battalion 62nd infantry division, which fought under Stalingrad. When the siege of Stalingrad started he was redeployed to Volga Military Navy. Where he served as sailor on the "Composer Borodin" evacuation ship. The ship evacuated injured Soviet soldiers from Stalingrad to Rybinsk. And was marked with the sign of the Red Cross. On 05.02.1943 Luftwaffe started bombing the ship. Killing all the crew exept Uryy Vasil'evich. He had to pilot the ship to safety. As the military navy codex dictates that sailor can only leave a ship if steering wheel is destroyed. One of the bombs thrown at the ship destroyed the steering wheel, throwing Uryy Vasil'evich to the Volga. Additionally, causing him numerous shrapnel wounds and beating out some of his front teeth. He lost his conciousness. And regained it in Volga red from blood. He reached eastern coast of Volge via swimming. Where he was found by medics of the Soviet Army. He recieved medical treatment in Military Hospital 52. Following recovery from his injuries he returned to 123rd infantry battalion 62nd infantry division. In the following battles this division was destroyed by the enemy. Uryy Vasil'evich was captured and send to the Dahau. Where he alongside other prisoners worked in coal mines untill dropping down. They were barely fed. Every evening fascists dug trenches. Lined prisoners along them. Fired from rifles. And beried anyone who dropped down to those trenches. At the end of April 1945, administration of Dahau understood that it would soon be libirated by American soldiers. So, fascists throw Uryy Vasil'evich and his commrades to the bottom of coal mines, in desperate attempts to hide their crimes. Hoiwever, Uryy Vasil'evich and his commrades made a long rope out of their clothes. Attached it to a hook at the top of the mine. And climed up. Uryy Vasil'evich along with other Dahau prisoners was libirated on 29.04.1945 by the 45th infantry division of USA. Uryy Vasil'evich was transferred to the Sovied Army. He visited Berlin as a tourist. After the war he worked as captain of a transport ship belonging to the Navoloki Textile factory. He knew Volge so well that he could navigate it without maps.

Юрий Васильевич родился в городке Наволоки, Кинешемского района, Ивановской области. С детства мечтал стать моряком. Закончил школу с отличием. После чего поступил в речное судоходное училище. Которое также закончил с отличием. За успехи в учебе получил напровление на учебу в военноморскую академию. Он отклонил направление, и вместе со своими сокурсниками ушел добровольцем на фронт. Он воевал в составе 123 сп 62 сд под Сталинградом. Когда бои перешли в городскую черту, был переведен на Волжский Военный Флот, на корабль «Композитор Бородин», в звании мотроса. В составе экипаже которого, он осущуствлял эвакуацию раненых из Сталинграда в Рыбинск, под эгидой Красного Креста. Во время одного из рейсов 05.02.1943 Люфтваффе вероломно начали бомбить корабль. Во время бомбежки погиб весь экипаж, кроме Юрия Васильевича. Ему пришлось встать за штурвал. Он вел корабль под обстрелом. Так-как моряк имеет право оставить корабль только после того как штурвал будет уничтожен. Штурвал был сорван бомбой нанеся Юрию Васильевичу осколочые ранения и выбив зубы. Он потерял сознание. Пришел в себя уже в Волге красной от крови. Доплыл до восточного берега контролируемого РККА. Проходил лечение в ВСП 52. После выписки вернулся в 123 сп 62 сд. В последующих боях подразделение было разбито немцами. Юрий Васильевич был взят в плен. И отправлен в концлагерь Дахау. Узники работали до изнеможения на угольных шахтах. Их почти не кормили. Они бали ужасно остощены. Каждый день после окончания смены немцы выкапывали ров, выстраивали узников в шеренгу, давали залп из винтовок, и закапывали всех кто упал. В конце апреля 1945 поняв, что концлагерь скоро возьмут американцы, надзиратели сбросили узников в угольные шахты. Но Юрий Васильевич с товарищами сплели канат из одежды, зацыпили его за крюк на верху шахты, и выбролись. Юрий Васильеви вместе с остальными узниками Дахау был освобожден 29.04.1945 45ой пехотной дивизией США. После освобождения Юрий Васильевич был передан Советским войскам. Побывал в Берлине проездом. После войны работал капитаном грузового корабля, принадлежавшего Наволокской текстильной фабрике. Настолько хорошо знал Волгу, что плавал по ней без карт.
