Biography
Sergeant Aleksei Petrov fought with the 45th Guards Tank Brigade at Kursk, Kharkov, and across Ukraine. Captured during a German counter-attack in early 1944, he spent over a year as a prisoner of war. After liberation by British forces in 1945, he was among Soviet POWs who chose not to return to the USSR, fearing reprisals for having been captured. He settled in Bristol, where the local Russian émigré community helped him rebuild his life. He worked as an engineer at the Bristol Aeroplane Company.

Сержант Алексей Иванович Петров сражался в 45-й гвардейской танковой бригаде под Курском, Харьковом и по всей Украине. Взятый в плен в 1944 году, он после освобождения решил не возвращаться в СССР. Поселился в Бристоле, работал инженером в Bristol Aeroplane Company.
