MoyPolk UK is Live: A Memorial Platform for WWII Veterans Across the United Kingdom

MoyPolk UK is the digital home of an organised coalition preserving the memory of WWII veterans connected to the United Kingdom. The platform brings together public initiatives, organisations, researchers, reenactors, volunteers and families — not as separate projects, but as a coordinated structure.

Four public directions

The platform stewards four public-facing directions, each grounded in a real organisation or research practice:

• The Immortal Regiment («Бессмертный полк») — the Victory March and commemorative processions. Anchored by Mihhail Frolov, who stood at the origins of the UK chapter.
• Flower-laying ceremonies — annual ceremonies at memorials and military burials. The flagship is the 9 May ceremony at the Soviet World War II Memorial in London (Lambeth Road SE1 6HZ).
• Victory Day auto-rally — an annual public and cultural initiative organised by RuCentre, with vehicle columns from cities across the UK converging on a single point of meeting.
• Necropolis («Некрополь») — research into Soviet military burials in the UK, led by historian Roman Firsov, cross-referenced from ЦАМО, ГАРФ, the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, and on-site documentation.

What the platform does

Families and contributors can:

• Add a veteran profile — name, rank, unit, biography, photographs, family stories
• Search the registry by name, region, military branch, or theatre of war
• Browse veteran profiles regionally across the United Kingdom
• Access the historical documents archive (research articles, archival materials, burial-research records)
• View the interactive veterans map
• Print a memorial card for use during the Immortal Regiment march
• Light a candle of remembrance on a veteran's page
• Submit photographs through the Unknown Soldiers programme to help identify unrecognised servicemen

Bilingual by design

The platform operates in English and Russian. Every public surface — profiles, articles, guides, events — renders in the user's chosen language. Translation parity is treated as discipline rather than convenience: there are no silent fallbacks that bias one language over the other.

Governed by a Council

MoyPolk UK is governed by a Council of three member organisations:

• Mihhail Frolov — main platform administrator; stood at the origins of the Immortal Regiment movement in the United Kingdom.
• Roman Firsov — historian and independent researcher based in London; built the archive of Soviet military burials that underpins the Necropolis direction.
• RuCentre — community organisation running the annual Victory Day auto-rally and cultural programmes that bring families together across UK cities.

The Council provides editorial direction and holds the platform to its founding principles: voluntary participation, non-political stewardship, family memory, nationwide tradition.

Editorial integrity

MoyPolk UK is a memorial platform, not a content engine. Submissions are reviewed by editors before they appear on featured surfaces. The platform distinguishes between four tiers of source confidence — Verified (archival source cited), Family submission, Community submission, and Research in progress — and that distinction is reflected in how each profile is presented across the site.

We publish what we can support, not simply what can be generated automatically. Where we have made mistakes, we correct them publicly rather than quietly. The platform's full editorial standards are documented on the editorial integrity page.
