Biography
Yuri Dmitrievich Kovalev served as an engineer with the Soviet Military Mission in London from 1943 to 1945, coordinating Lend-Lease equipment transfers and technical exchanges between Soviet and British engineers. Before his London posting, he had served on the Eastern Front as a combat engineer at Stalingrad, where he helped build pontoon bridges across the Volga under fire. After the war he chose not to return to the USSR and eventually settled in Leeds, where he worked as a mechanical engineer for a manufacturing firm.

Юрий Дмитриевич Ковалёв служил инженером при Советской военной миссии в Лондоне с 1943 по 1945 год, координируя передачу оборудования по ленд-лизу. До лондонской командировки он служил на Восточном фронте сапёром под Сталинградом, строя понтонные мосты через Волгу под огнём. После войны он остался на Западе и поселился в Лидсе.
