Biography

Captain William Telford was one of Belfast's most decorated officers. He led a company of the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers through North Africa, Sicily, and up the Italian peninsula. He earned the Military Cross at Anzio for holding his position against a German counter-attack despite being wounded. Returning to action, he was promoted and awarded the DSO during the advance through Belgium. He was killed in action crossing the Rhine in March 1945, just weeks before the war ended. He is buried at Reichswald Forest War Cemetery in Germany.

Капитан Уильям Телфорд был одним из самых награждённых офицеров Белфаста. Он вёл роту Королевских Иннискиллинских фузилёров через Северную Африку, Сицилию и Италию. Получил Военный крест при Анцио за удержание позиции. Погиб при переправе через Рейн в марте 1945 года, всего за несколько недель до конца войны. Похоронен на военном кладбище Райхсвальд в Германии.
