Biography

Petty Officer William O'Connor served aboard several Royal Navy vessels during the Battle of the Atlantic and the Arctic Convoys. During a convoy to Murmansk in winter 1942, his ship was torpedoed by a U-boat wolf pack. William spent four hours in the freezing Arctic waters before being rescued, losing two fingers to frostbite. Born in Belfast, he remained there after the war, working at the Harland and Wolff shipyard.

Старшина Уильям О'Коннор служил на нескольких кораблях Королевского флота. Во время конвоя в Мурманск зимой 1942 года его корабль был торпедирован. Уильям провёл четыре часа в ледяных водах Арктики, потеряв два пальца от обморожения. Родился в Белфасте и остался там после войны.
