Biography
Private William Nottingham served with the 1st Airborne Division and fought at the Battle of Arnhem during Operation Market Garden in September 1944. He was among the paratroopers who held the bridge perimeter for nine days against overwhelming German forces. Captured after the division was forced to withdraw, he spent the remainder of the war as a prisoner of war in Stalag XIB. He survived but his health was broken by the ordeal. He returned to Nottingham where he worked as a groundskeeper.

Рядовой Уильям Ноттингем сражался в составе 1-й воздушно-десантной дивизии при Арнеме в сентябре 1944 года. Девять дней удерживал периметр моста. Попал в плен после отступления дивизии. Вернулся в Ноттингем после войны.
