Biography

Sub Lieutenant William Marsh trained at HMS Tormentor in Warsash, Southampton for the D-Day landings. He commanded a landing craft carrying troops of the Hampshire Regiment to Gold Beach on 6 June 1944. He was killed when his craft was hit by enemy fire on a return trip on D+1.

Суб-лейтенант Уильям Марш проходил подготовку на базе HMS Tormentor в Уорсаш, Саутгемптон, для высадки в День Д. Он командовал десантным катером, перевозившим солдат Гэмпширского полка на пляж Голд 6 июня 1944 года. Погиб, когда его катер был поражён вражеским огнём при обратном рейсе на Д+1.
