Biography

Wilfred Okonkwo came from Nigeria to join the RAF in 1942. He trained as an aero-engine fitter at Church Fenton near Leeds and maintained Typhoon fighter-bombers that supported the D-Day invasion. He was one of thousands of West African volunteers who served with the RAF. After the war, he studied engineering at the University of Leeds and settled in Harehills.

Уилфред Оконкво прибыл из Нигерии в 1942 году для службы в RAF. Обучился авиамехаником в Чёрч-Фентоне под Лидсом и обслуживал истребители-бомбардировщики Тайфун. После войны учился в Университете Лидса.
