Philip Grigorevich Vlasov

My grandfather, Filipp Grigoryevich Vlasov, took part in the Battle of Moscow. His rifle regiment No. 1075, part of the 316th (later Panfilov) Division, heroically defended the city of Volokolamsk. Then, as part of the 8th Guards Rifle Division named after I. V. Panfilov, he fought to repel the fascist attacks near the village of Kryukovo, now the city of Zelenograd. In mid-December the depleted division was withdrawn to reserve for rest and reinforcement, then sent back into battle near Novgorod, the Demyansk Pocket, and the Staraya Russa area. My grandfather fought against the "Aryan elite" — the SS "Totenkopf" Division. There, in combat in 1942, he was mortally wounded. He died of his wounds in hospital. He is buried at the Sambatovo memorial, Novgorod Region.
