Biography
Captain Victoria Smirnova served as a fighter pilot with the 586th Fighter Aviation Regiment — one of the three all-female aviation regiments. She flew Yak-1 and Yak-7 fighters, defending Saratov and Voronezh from German bombing raids. Victoria was credited with 3 personal kills and 4 shared kills. She emigrated to London in the late 1990s and was a regular participant in Victory Day ceremonies.
