Biography
Private Valentina Dmitrievna Belova survived the 872-day Siege of Leningrad. She volunteered for the city's defence brigade at age 17, helping to build fortifications and transport supplies across the frozen Lake Ladoga on the "Road of Life." She lost her parents and brother to starvation during the blockade. She emigrated to Southampton in 1995 and was known for her annual remembrance ceremonies for the siege victims.

Рядовая Валентина Дмитриевна Белова пережила 872-дневную блокаду Ленинграда. В 17 лет она добровольно вступила в бригаду обороны города, помогая строить укрепления и перевозить грузы по замёрзшему Ладожскому озеру.
