Sergeant Harold Liversedge was among the glider-borne troops of the Ox and Bucks who captured Pegasus Bridge in the first action of D-Day. Landing at 00:16 on 6 June 1944, just minutes after midnight, his platoon stormed the bridge in a coup de main operation that lasted just ten minutes. The capture of this vital crossing over the Caen Canal was critical to preventing German armoured reinforcements from reaching the beaches.
