Biography
Corporal Tom Richards of Cardiff fought with the South Wales Borderers across North Africa and Italy. He landed in Algeria in November 1942 and fought through Tunisia, where his platoon captured a German machine-gun post during the final push on Tunis. He then landed in Sicily and fought up the Italian peninsula through the brutal battles of Monte Cassino and the Gothic Line. He was one of only 12 men from his original platoon of 35 who survived the entire Italian campaign.
