Biography
Corporal Tadeusz Kowalski served with the 1st Polish Independent Parachute Brigade under General Sosabowski. He parachuted into Driel on 21 September 1944 as part of the ill-fated Operation Market Garden, attempting to relieve British forces trapped at Arnhem bridge. Despite impossible odds and terrible losses, the Polish paratroopers fought with extraordinary bravery. After the war, many Polish soldiers like Tadeusz could not return home due to Soviet occupation. He settled in Leeds and worked in textiles.

Капрал Тадеуш Ковальский служил в 1-й Польской отдельной парашютной бригаде генерала Сосабовского. 21 сентября 1944 года он десантировался у Дрила в рамках операции «Маркет-Гарден», пытаясь помочь британским войскам у моста Арнема. Несмотря на невозможные условия, польские десантники сражались с необычайной храбростью. После войны многие поляки не смогли вернуться домой из-за советской оккупации. Тадеуш поселился в Лидсе.
