Biography
Flying Officer Stanislaw Kowalski escaped Poland after its fall and reached Britain, where he was assigned to No. 603 Squadron based at Turnhouse near Edinburgh. He flew Spitfires during the Battle of Britain and through the later offensive operations over France. Polish pilots were among the most determined and skilled in the RAF, driven by the desire to liberate their homeland. After the war, unable to return to communist Poland, Stanislaw settled in Edinburgh where he married a local woman and worked as a draughtsman.

Лётчик-офицер Станислав Ковальский бежал из Польши и присоединился к 603-й эскадрилье под Эдинбургом. Он летал на «Спитфайрах» во время Битвы за Британию. После войны, не имея возможности вернуться в коммунистическую Польшу, поселился в Эдинбурге.
