Sergey Nikolayevich Anokhin, 1 April 1910 – 15 April 1986 in Moscow. A test pilot, colonel. His Hero of the Soviet Union was conferred in 1953 for test flying and not for the war; he is in this archive on confirmed war service. He was called up on 20 November 1941 and from 22 December commanded a flight of the Airborne Forces flight-test detachment on the Kalinin Front, later commanding a flight and a detachment of the separate Airborne Forces test air squadron. He flew about 200 combat sorties, some of them behind enemy lines, and on the night of 17 March 1943 took part in the only glider take-off from a partisan airfield of the entire war. On 15 May 1945 he lost his left eye testing a Yak-3, and returned to flying in December of that year.
