Biography
Leading Seaman Sean McAuley from Belfast served aboard HMS Polyanthus, a Flower-class corvette built at Harland and Wolff in his home city. He escorted convoys through the North Atlantic and on the perilous Arctic run to Murmansk. On 20 September 1943, while escorting convoy ON-202, HMS Polyanthus was torpedoed by U-952 and sank in the North Atlantic. Of the 86 crew, only one survived. Sean was among those lost. He was 22 years old.
