R.V. Jones was the head of scientific intelligence at the Air Ministry, a role in which he became the real-life "Q" of British intelligence. His most famous achievement was unravelling the German radio beam navigation system (the "Battle of the Beams"), enabling RAF countermeasures that caused German bombers to drop their loads on empty countryside.Jones also played a key role in identifying and countering the V-1 and V-2 weapons. His Oxford connections include his academic career at the Clarendon Laboratory. His memoir "Most Secret War" is considered one of the finest books about intelligence in WW2.
