Biography
Ruth Payne was a Cambridge graduate recruited into the SOE through the First Aid Nursing Yeomanry. She served as a courier in occupied France, carrying messages and supplies between resistance groups in the Lyon area. She was betrayed and arrested in February 1944 but managed to convince the Gestapo she was a French civilian. Released after three weeks, she continued her work until liberation.
