Biography

Flight Officer Ruth Blackwood served at Bomber Command headquarters at High Wycombe, where she worked in the operations room coordinating the massive bombing raids over Germany. She plotted aircraft routes, monitored weather reports, and helped calculate losses after each mission. The emotional toll of watching aircraft symbols being removed from the plotting board — each representing a crew that would not return — stayed with her for life. She lived in Oxford.
