Biography
Major Richard Winters led Easy Company, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment of the 101st Airborne Division, from D-Day through the end of the war. His assault on the gun battery at Brecourt Manor on D-Day became a textbook example of small-unit tactics studied at military academies worldwide. He led his men through Operation Market Garden, the Battle of the Bulge, and the liberation of concentration camps. An Oxford military studies programme included his profile in their Allied leadership research.
