Biography
Colonel Richard James Ashworth was a scholar at Balliol College, Oxford, when war broke out. His fluent French led to his recruitment by the Special Operations Executive (SOE). He was parachuted into occupied France multiple times to coordinate with the Resistance, organizing supply drops and sabotage operations. He was captured by the Gestapo in 1945 and died in Mauthausen concentration camp just weeks before liberation.
