Biography
Reginald Watts served aboard the destroyer HMS Fury, which sailed from Southampton as part of the D-Day invasion fleet on 5 June 1944. His ship provided fire support for the troops landing on Juno Beach and helped protect the invasion fleet from German E-boats and air attacks. Southampton was a major embarkation point for D-Day — over 3.5 million troops, vehicles, and equipment passed through the port. Reginald made multiple crossings to Normandy in the days after D-Day. He returned to Southampton and worked at the docks for 35 years.
