Biography
Major Reginald Marsh led a company of the Hampshire Regiment on D-Day, landing on Gold Beach at Ver-sur-Mer. The Hampshires were one of the first battalions ashore and suffered heavy casualties in the first wave. Marsh rallied his men through intense machine gun fire and secured their section of the beach, enabling follow-up forces to land. He was awarded the DSO for his leadership that day. He was killed in action three months later during the advance through France near Falaise in August 1944. He is buried at Banneville-la-Campagne War Cemetery.

Майор Реджинальд Марш вёл роту Гэмпширского полка в день «Д», высадившись на пляже Голд. Гэмпширцы были одними из первых на берегу и понесли тяжёлые потери. Марш поднял своих людей под интенсивным пулемётным огнём и закрепил участок пляжа. Награждён орденом «За выдающиеся заслуги». Погиб в бою при Фалезе в августе 1944 года.
