Peter Markham Scott

Lieutenant Commander Peter Scott — son of the Antarctic explorer Robert Falcon Scott — commanded steam gun boats in the English Channel, engaging E-boats in fierce night actions. A talented artist, he designed the distinctive camouflage patterns used on his own and other Royal Navy vessels.Based partly out of Southampton, Scott saw intense action in the narrow seas. After the war, he founded the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust and the World Wildlife Fund, becoming one of the most influential conservationists of the 20th century. His wartime sketches of naval combat are held in the Imperial War Museum.
