Biography

Private Percy Green was a paratrooper with the 1st Airborne Division who took part in Operation Market Garden — the disastrous airborne operation at Arnhem in September 1944. Percy was among the paratroopers who held the bridge at Arnhem for nine days against overwhelming German forces. Of the approximately 10,000 men who landed at Arnhem, fewer than 2,500 escaped. Percy was reported missing in action and is believed to have been killed during the withdrawal. He was 23 years old. His body was never identified. His name appears on the Groesbeek Memorial in the Netherlands.

Рядовой Перси Грин был парашютистом 1-й воздушно-десантной дивизии, участвовавшей в операции «Маркет Гарден» при Арнеме в сентябре 1944 года. Из примерно 10 000 высадившихся менее 2 500 вернулись. Перси считается погибшим. Ему было 23 года.
