Biography

Rifleman Patrick McGill served with the 2nd Battalion, Royal Ulster Rifles and landed on Sword Beach on D-Day, 6 June 1944. His unit fought through the Normandy bocage and was involved in the fierce battle for Caen. He was mentioned in despatches for his actions during the assault on a fortified village near Tilly-sur-Seulles. He was killed by a sniper during the advance on Falaise in August 1944. His brother, also serving in Normandy, survived the war and returned to Belfast.

Стрелок Патрик Макгилл высадился на пляже Сорд в день Д 6 июня 1944 года в составе 2-го батальона Королевских Ольстерских стрелков. Погиб от снайпера при наступлении на Фалез в августе 1944 года.
