Patricia Dunn

Patricia Dunn from Rottingdean joined the Women's Land Army at seventeen, working on farms across the South Downs to replace men who had gone to fight. She drove tractors, milked cows, and harvested crops in all weather. The Land Girls were essential to preventing food shortages during the war. Patricia worked on a sheep farm near Lewes and later at a dairy farm in Ditchling. She said the hardest part was the physical labour in winter, but the camaraderie among the Land Girls kept spirits high. After the war, she married a local farmer and continued working the land she had helped save.
